ABOUT CARRIE:

Carrie Jennings (she/her/hers) serves as the Research and Policy Director at Freshwater Society, a leading Minnesota-based nonprofit dedicated to inspiring and empowering communities to value and protect water resources. With 24 years of experience as a field geologist—22 of which were with the Minnesota Geological Survey and two with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (MN DNR), Division of Lands and Minerals—Carrie brings a wealth of expertise to her role.

In addition to her work at Freshwater, Carrie is an Adjunct Graduate Faculty member at the University of Minnesota. She also previously led the Science Reports for the County Geologic Atlas program at the MN DNR. Carrie’s expertise in glacial geology and landscape evolution positions her as a key influencer in shaping water management policies and technical strategies for promoting sustainable resource use.

Passionate about conservation, Carrie and her husband live on a 120-acre farm, largely protected under a permanent conservation easement through the Dakota County Farmland and Natural Areas Program. Their homestead, which includes a small collection of livestock, reflects Carrie’s commitment to environmental stewardship. She also actively contributes to her local community, having been elected twice as a town board supervisor and serving on the planning commission for Eureka Township.

ABOUT THE CHEF:

Tyler Shipton is the Executive Chef and owner of Juniper’s Restaurant. His culinary journey has placed him in some of the country’s most prominent restaurants. In 2012, he decided to embark on his own journey and was one of the opening Chefs and owners of Minneapolis’ Borough. In 2015, he moved to the west coast, with a desire to explore the food scene. After spending several years as an Executive Chef of various top restaurants along the coast in San Diego, the pandemic forced Chef Tyler and fiancé Ame back to the farm he grew up on, and together, the duo founded Juniper’s in Lanesboro, MN.
