Description
Join expert fiber artist Susan Ritter for weekly Fiber Arts Nights! Bring a project to work on, give and get advice, or learn a new fiber art at the Driftless Fiber Arts Collective! Fiber Arts night takes place on Wednesdays starting at 6 pm.
Through the Summer, Susan will be teaching Dorset Button making. Participants will have the opportunity to learn a variety of patterns. The kit to learn Dorset Button Making costs only $5.00 (cash or check) per participant. Class registration includes a kit with written instructions, pearl cotton threads, a tapestry needle, and 1 inch plastic rings.
A Dorset Button is a style of craft-made button originating in the English county of Dorset. Their manufacture was at a peak between 1622 and 1850, after which they were overtaken by machine-made buttons from factories.
Dorset Buttons are characteristically made by repeatedly binding yarn over a disc or ring former. There are four main forms and a large number of individual styles within these. Wheels are the most characteristic form of dorset button and worked on a ring. They are also known as Dorset Cartwheels, Crosswheels, Basket weave, and Yarrells.
Driftless Fiber Arts Collective’s purpose is to extend Lanesboro, Minnesota’s status as an Art Campus, cultivating a communal learning space and engaging creative exploration of craft, words, and games. Join us for our weeknight gatherings or for a class!
