Textile Books Workshop with Soph Munic

Join textile artist, Soph Munic in creating books that hold our stories! From 10 am to 1 pm on February 9th, sewers are invited to explore the intersection of bookmaking and textile art. This class will take place at the Driftless Fiber Arts Collective, 108 Coffee Street East, Lanesboro, MN.

Register to participate now! This class is offered at a sliding scale participation fee of $10 – $35 per person, and is open to anyone interested in sewing. Some sewing experience is recommended.

This workshop will combine an array of skills: some basic bookmaking and zine making, hand sewing, machine sewing, and collage. Soph will demonstrate how to plan out the basic structure of the book, and then there will be open studio time to create the individual pages. Throughout the class Soph will provide one-on-one support specific to artists individual projects. At the end of class Soph will show how to assemble the pages into a book.

Masks are required for this workshop. Additional masks will be available.

Participants are expected to bring their own equipment and materials, and are encouraged to bring an array of fabrics.

Materials List:

Sewing Machine (or a needle for hand sewing)

Thread

Scissors

Fabric (Soph recommends cottons, clothes you are ready to cut up, forgotten quilt projects, etc)

Optional: Sketches & reference photos, a poem you would like to put into your book, buttons or fun notions to add flair.

Soph Munic was a 2023 Lanesboro Artist-in-Residence. Their work is included in the 2025 Early Career Artist Exhibition at the Lanesboro Arts Gallery.
