About Us

The James A. Thompson House is an exquisitely restored 1870 brick Italianate 2 story home. She sits beautifully on a hilltop with1.3 acres backing right up to the Root River and beckons you to enjoy the incredible grounds. An observation deck at the highest vista of the property offers breathtaking views of the river and Dam, from which Lanesboro was fashioned. Take a walk to the lower side of the property and feel the refreshing spray of the waterfall welcoming you to a slice of heaven right here on Earth.
Inside the Thompson House, you will experience an era gone by. The main floor features original wide plank hardwood floors, grand curved staircase, crown molding, picturesque window views, tall ceilings, and many amenities. Relax in the parlor with period style fireplace or the library, which has a hidden TV, player piano, and outside access to the side porch. Enjoy a meal in the formal dining room or go outside to dine alfresco on the brick patio off a second side porch. The second level of the home shows a cozy sitting area with a small refrigerator along with 3 bedrooms, each with their own bathroom.
Once you've enjoyed the Thompson House amenities, take a short stroll downtown. This home is in an excellent location to all the attractions Lanesboro has to offer.
Our goal is to provide a customized stay. There are no set check-in or check-out times, breakfast serving times are determined by agreement of the house, and we’re happy to make dinner and theater reservations on your behalf. Anything we can do to enhance your Lanesboro experience is our pleasure!
